Cideries are following in brewerys’ footsteps and making a great showing here in RVA. A newcomer to our area is Maidens, Virginia’s Courthouse Creek Cider.
Owners Eric and Liza Cioffi are transplants from California who brought their family here with dreams of a fresh start for their blended family and a dream to raise their kids in a healthy, living environment where they could run and play and explore. With Eric’s background in food and his interest in wine making, he originally thought wine would be his calling, but after he tried his first dry Virginia cider he was hooked and running his own orchard and cidery became the dream. So, Courthouse Creek was born!
Liza believes in organic growth and truly caring and nurturing the land in which their apples are grown. Their vision is to let the earth do the work without much intervention to create delicious Virginia clay grown apples. They call it the “rustic method”. In fact, they are the only cidery in Virginia to produce all of its ciders using barrels and little to no preservatives.
As a family business, they are committed to plant their roots deeply into the community. They want to not only grow a business they can be proud of, but build a relationship with the neighbors that supports them and that is something we love and appreciate about small business and this great family.
Their tasting room is open every Friday 5-8pm, Saturday 1-8pm, and Sunday 1-7pm. They also host special events throughout the year like their Summer Music Series and head out this coming Friday (May 25) for their Friday Night Flights and Bites event, which will take place every Friday through Aug 24, and enjoy a flight of five ciders and a paired nosh for $15 or simply grab a class or bottle of cider and enjoy the beautiful view of the farm!
