The arcades of our childhood have been revived and made even better with the invention of the bar-cade. If you grew up in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s this idea of all your favorite childhood games partnered with a bar filled with craft beer is about the most fun you can imagine. And a visit to The Circuit Arcade Bar in Richmond’s Scott’s Addition will bring memories of the hours you spent playing Mario or NBA Jam flooding back.
With over 70 retro arcade and pinball machines, classic console games, as well as childhood favorites like Skiball and Air Hockey it’s like your parent’s basement upgraded times ten. Go back in time and try to beat the highest score with throwbacks like Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, Frogger, Pac Man, and Mortal Kombat. This spot is guaranteed to keep your entertained for hours. They also offer board games, shuffleboard, and giant Jenga if you want to go simple with your gaming. And on Tuesdays they host Tournament Tuesdays where participants face off on games like 007, Mario Kart, and others.
Their beverage options are fantastic with a self-serve style tap system offering 50 choices on tap at all time with craft beers, ciders, and wine. And the selection is always changing. Their beer choices are a favorite with local brews, as well as national favorites making it easy to find a beer for any taste and fun to try what’s new. Drinks are sold by the ounce, so you can try a beer easily without having to purchase an entire glass. To make it simple, food can also be ordered self-service with easy to use kiosks. Their menu offers sliders and tacos which are the perfect one-handed eats to enjoy while simultaneously shooting threes, fighting your enemies, or rescuing Princess Peach from Bowser’s Castle.
The Circuit is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5-11pm, Fridays 4pm-1am, and Saturdays and Sundays 1pm-1am. They are closed on Mondays.
Keep in mind that because they serve alcohol, there are some restrictions to age depending on the time of day. The Circuit is family friendly until 9pm each night, but there are rules. Get the details at Circuit Arcade Bar website.
If you’re looking for something different to do on date night or just a fun night out with friends, The Circuit is a great spot to hang out and go back in time for a little while.
