Scoop: RVA’s Newest Ice Cream Destination

RVA has a brand new place to enjoy one of our favorite summer treats! Scoop’s innovative flavors, house-made bakery items, and local roots are quickly making it an ice cream hot spot and a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

Having just recently opened its doors on Strawberry St. in the Fan in June, and lines almost always out the door, we just checked out this spot for ourselves. What we love about this locally owned ice creamery is its dedication to quality and being so much more than your run of the mill neighborhood ice cream shop. Scoop prides itself on making small batch ice cream with most flavors being unique to them, like Croissants and Jam or Brown Sugar Cookie Dough. They also make their waffle cones and all of their sauces in house.

They currently have nine signature flavors that are offered year round, plus a few seasonal favorites that rotate. Right now, you can try fun options like Tahini & Halvah, Rhubarb Crisp, Earl Grey, and Roasted Strawberry. Some of their flavors are even Gluten-Free or Vegan for those with special dietary needs.

Something else that makes them stand apart is that they are the sister store to Shockoe Bottom’s popular bakery, Whisk. Because these two shops share ownership, Scoop takes advantage by pairing their ice cream treats with Whisk favorites like fresh baked macarons and cookies as indulgent ice cream sandwiches and light, fluffy french pastry puffs as the base for their profiterole sundaes.

Other serving options include a simple scoop or two in a waffle cone or cup, or finished with sprinkles, mini macarons, Virginia peanuts, or any of their other delicious toppings. Our favorite is the Flight. Just like beer from a brewery, you can get a flight of ice cream with your choice of three scoops topped with chocolate chips, vegan peanut butter, and Whisk whisker cookies.

Scoop is open Tuesdays-Thursdays 12pm-10-pm, Friday & Saturday 12pm-11pm, and Sunday 12pm-10pm. Sorry, guys, they’re closed on Mondays, so you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to grab a scoop from Scoop. But, trust us, it’s so worth the wait!
