Located in the Scott’s Addition neighborhood, and a fairly new player in the brewing game (only open since 2016), The Veil Brewing Co. is easily one of RVA’s most popular craft breweries. To give you an idea of the love for their beer–anytime a new brew launches folks are lined up on the street for hours before they open the doors just waiting for a taste.
Now, in Richmond we’re serious about our craft beer. We were even named the No. 1 beer destination in 2018 by Vinepair.com. So for a brewery around here to have lines out the door and constant rave reviews, it’s a big deal. There’s stiff competition everywhere you turn. But when you ask a local which breweries they recommend, the name Veil rolls off their tongue more often than most.
To quote Veil’s website, they specialize in “hop-forward ales, high gravity barrel aging, and spontaneous fermentation”. In no way am I a craft beer connoisseur, and unless you’re a beer fanatic all of that may be lost on you too, but I can tell you one thing…their beer is fantastic and full of pleasant surprises.
From their newest release (un”veil”ed just yesterday), Vanilla Circle of Wolves which is aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels, to their Double Stuffed Oreo & Cinnamon Hornswoggler (a Chocolate Milk Stout), to their selection of IPAs, every option offers a delicious twist which keeps their customers coming back for more.
Veil typically offers about 15 beers on tap, which rotate regularly, plus many of their options are available in cans and bottles for those who want to take it home. Veil also brings in Richmond’s great food trucks to serve in their parking lot for some good eats to compliment your beverage of choice.
Whether you’re hanging out for a few beers with friends or grabbing a bottle or 4-pack to go, Veil is a great spot to get a taste of the greatness that is Richmond craft beer.
