Tucked into beautiful Grove Avenue in the Westhampton neighborhood of Richmond is a restaurant that’s become one of my new favorites for a casual meal, whether brunch, lunch or dinner. Continental Westhampton is a comfortable, laid back spot with a retro vibe and their own spin on American classic food.

Corn dogs made fresh with three delicious dipping sauces, a plate of nachos piled so high it’s insane, pot pie with spinach and feta, french dip sandwiches that are house made with your choice of meat and toppings combo, and so many more favorites with little nuances that make them special. But they also offer items not seen on a typical American classics menu, like their savory pancakes served either Continental style with pastrami, sauerkraut, and their special sauce, or vegetarian packed with fresh veggies and topped with greek yogurt. These are a local favorite!

You’ll also find delicious seafood on the menu. Shrimp, oysters, lobster, fish served in different ways. For my meal, I chose the Lobster and Shrimp Roll and it was phenomenal. The freshness of the ingredients and melt in your mouth goodness of the roll was so delicious, and the house made chips were the perfect compliment. They also offer salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, tacos, you name it. Their menu is extensive and has something for everyone.

As for atmosphere, I immediately felt at home here. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I was there during lunch on a Sunday and patrons were there from all walks of life from families to couples, friends to lone diners, young and old. Continental Westhampton welcomes and fits us all with a casual feel that’s perfect for everyday dining. The only thing I can’t speak for is the atmosphere at night. They’ve got a fantastic bar and I’ve heard it can get busy at times, so be mindful of that if you’re thinking of taking the kids after dark.

The charm is unmistakable. They even have a great front patio area that’s covered and heated in the colder months and perfection for outdoor dining in the spring and summer.

If you’re in the Libbie and Grove area and looking for a fantastic meal in a casual spot with tons of options, this is absolutely the place to be. Shoot, make the trip if you have to. There are so many goodies to try on their menu and it’s all so good that you’ll be back…again and again.
